Use penalty.app in Claude or ChatGPT
Connect your penalty.app account to an AI assistant and manage your refereeing admin by chatting. You sign in and approve the connection yourself, and you can disconnect it any time.
Included with Pro, and free for founding members. While penalty.app is in early access everyone has it; once the paid plans launch it stays part of Pro.
What you can ask
Ask about money
“Who still owes me for matches?”, “How much have I earned this season?”, “Show unpaid games from September.”
Log a match
“Log Saturday: Riverside v Town, 2pm, £45, 8 miles.” The assistant confirms the details with you first.
Record a payment
“Riverside paid me £20 of the £45.” Part-payments are supported.
Note a chase
“I emailed Town FC about the unpaid fee today.”
Track expenses
“Add a £9.99 kit expense, a new whistle, for yesterday.”
What it can't do
- Delete matches, expenses or anything else
- Change your settings, plan, seasons or account
- See anyone else's data — it only ever acts as you
Connect it
You'll need your connection address:
https://penalty.app/api/mcp
It's also in Settings → AI apps, with a copy button.
Claude
- Open Customize → Connectors
- Choose + → Add custom connector
- Paste the address above
- If Claude says it can't verify the server, choose Continue anyway, then Sign in now and Register automatically
- Press Connect, sign in to penalty.app and tap Allow
On a Team or Enterprise plan, an organisation owner adds the connector first.
Codex (in the ChatGPT app)
- Add the address as an MCP server in Codex, leaving the token fields empty
- In a terminal, run
codex mcp login <server name> - Sign in to penalty.app and tap Allow
Use codex mcp list to see the server's exact name.
ChatGPT on the web (experimental)
ChatGPT adds MCP servers through its Plugins tab: choose + → Add custom MCP server, paste the address and choose OAuth. We haven't confirmed this route works end to end yet, and availability depends on your plan, so use Claude or Codex if you want the tested route.
Menu names change as these apps update. Any assistant that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in can use the same address, but we've only tested the ones above.
Your data
- The assistant sees what it asks for. When you ask a question, it fetches the relevant matches, payments or expenses and they become part of your conversation. That conversation is handled by the provider you chose (for example Anthropic or OpenAI) under their own terms and privacy settings, not ours.
- You stay in control. The assistant is told to confirm before it logs or changes anything, and it can never delete. Check what it proposes before you approve it.
- Disconnect any time. Remove an app under Settings → AI apps. It loses access within a minute. Deleting your account disconnects everything.
- We don't give assistants your password. You sign in on penalty.app and approve a limited connection that you can revoke.
Full details are in our privacy policy.
Troubleshooting
- It says this is a Pro feature
- Once the paid plans launch, AI assistant connections need Pro (or founding membership or an active trial). See pricing.
- Claude says it can't verify the server
- That check is optional. Choose Continue anyway, then Sign in now and Register automatically, and add it.
- It says I need to sign in, or the connection failed
- Make sure you can sign in at penalty.app, then remove the connector and add it again.
- I used an email sign-in link and ended up on my dashboard
- Go back to the assistant and press Connect again. You're already signed in, so you'll go straight to the approval screen.
- A match it logged has the wrong age group
- Matches logged this way default to Adults. Open the match in penalty.app to change it.
