Matches & Earnings

Tournament tracking

County cups, charity sevens, festival days — these events don't fit the standard league match format. Tournaments let you log them as a single entry with one payment, multiple games, and their own payment tracking.

Tips

Log the tournament on the day

You know exactly how many games you refereed and what was agreed for payment. Details get fuzzy if you wait a week.

Use the games count field accurately

This affects your earnings-per-game statistics in Reporting. 6 games for £80 looks very different to 1 game for £80 in your stats.

Check who pays before the event

Tournament organisers, county FAs, and host clubs all have different payment timelines. Knowing in advance helps you chase the right person if payment is slow.

Add notes for informal tournaments

For charity events or small local festivals, add a note with the organiser's name or phone number so you have the contact details when it's time to chase payment.

Frequently asked questions

Why are tournaments separate from regular matches?

Tournaments are typically paid as a single lump sum for the whole event — rather than a per-match fee. They also don't count towards FA promotion requirements in the same way as league fixtures. Keeping them separate means your promotion stats stay accurate and your financial reporting is cleaner.

Can a tournament have more than one game?

Yes. When you add a tournament, set the 'Games count' field to the total number of matches you refereed during the event. This is used for your match statistics and earnings per game calculations.

Do tournaments appear in my earnings reports?

Yes. Tournament fees are included in your total earnings in the Reporting section, alongside your regular match fees. They can be filtered by season or tax year along with everything else.

Can I track who pays for a tournament?

Yes. The tournament form has the same payer type (organiser, county FA, league, etc.) and payment method (cash, BACS) fields as the regular match form. You can also mark payment status and record the date payment was received.

What age groups are supported?

Tournaments support the same age group options as regular matches — Adults, and all junior age bands (U7 through U18). This lets you separate youth tournaments from adult ones in your stats.
